The future of online poker is as uncertain as ever a gambling laws in countries around the world are constantly under review.
I was actively playing back in 2006 when the shock news from the US came into action.
They passed law to make it a class c felony for anyone in the country to gamble online.
At the time I was playing at poker champs which was a tight poker community of around 1100 players active online. Almost everybody knew everybody else that played on their level. We had some great games on there and the banter was always a great part of the game.
Poker champs was popular because of its new software which was unmatched by any other poker site on the net, because it was easy to use and the action was fast. I even had the pleasure of playing against the famous danish player Gus Hansen on 2 occassions as he was the professional who sponsored champs back then. Sadly in July 2006 this was all ripped apart as the new law was passed and all the american poker players accounts had to be suspended.
Poker champs along with its great software was then bought out by uk’s betfair and they still use the same today on both websites.
I don’t think I’ll ever find the same community feel on a poker site again – that it was just a one off.
However I have been excited by the growing pace of a relatively new site called pkr.
You can watch a sample of some active poker from the site below:
Now at the first look you may think this is just a demo intro like most games have but you would be wrong.
This is what the game actually looks like when you are playing ( I promise you )
Whats more this clip is taken from from a live TV stream so you may even be featured playing poker like one of the pros.
You can even change the camera angles to suit how you wish to view the game including from your own seat position which is even more realistic.
In the clip you may notice a guy clucking like a chicken LOL… well you can even have a go at doing that if it floats your boat as their are tons of character emotion options to choose while inplay.
Although this software does slow down the game compared to other poker sites you may be familar with – you can’t knock the guys at pkr.com for creating a new poker site which is the closest thing ever to real casino action.
This for me is where the future of online poker lies and the pace at which this site is growing backs that up.
Make the most of it before the ‘powers that be’ change their mind and stop us playing over here.
Promoters of the game can find details of pkr’s affiliate program here
